Silver Birch Dress
The Silver Birch dress has drawn its inspiration from the art couture dress ‘Mycelium‘.
This dress is classic and minimal in design with an asymmetrical hem. The fabric texture has been created by using appliqué and embroidery, which is applied by Tarmi. Tarmi has also hand dyes the lining using the Japanese Shibori technique, Arashi. Also known as pole-wrapping shibori to create a wavy pattern within the colour.
Slub silk dupion with silk habotai lining. The slub silk dupion has natural variations that form the texture of the fabric.
Main – White/Lining – White and Apricot.
Exposed Center back zip and Neck opening with press studs for closure.

The Silver Birch dress has drawn its inspiration from my art couture dress ‘Mycelium‘. As part of the process of designing ‘Mycelium’ I worked on a fabric treatment to represent the bark of a Silver Birch tree. Using upcycled remnants of fabric from the studio and embroidery I came up with the beautiful texture you can now see in this dress. In the inspiration image I was working from for the bark of the Silver Birch dress, there were dark edges where the bark was splitting and I just loved the contrast of these against the silver white bark. This was represented in ‘Mycelium’ and has now become the inspiration behind the neck opening and the ribbon trim at the hem. This garment has become part of a ‘Mycelium’ inspired collection.
