Nukie Figure Painting Commission
Artwork by Tarmi Clarke
Nukie, this expressive painting is called. A commission for some wonderful adventurers. Try riding around Africa on motor cycles! Lucky things! Painting wet on wet, I love the free flow of the colours running and blending into each other, disrupted by the textured canvas. With a live model as the inspiration, I have endeavoured to capture the energy of the moment. It’s as if the inks have revealed an invisible figure.
150cm x 100cm. Ink.
“I like the abstract style, the feminine and beauty reflected in your painting and the fact it was drawn from life model. I think you really captured the mood well. I liked your work immediately and continued to enjoy it. You are very talented Tarmi!” – JENNIFER VAN DAMME
In regard to Life Painting, I love to capture freshness and spontaneity without over thinking it. Ink is my primary medium, but I also combine acrylics and oil paint sticks. Through this wet-on-wet technique I experiment with bleeding, run marks and repelling mediums, each applied in different ways. All works are inspired by a live model, with the layering of materials giving an individuality to each painting. To add an exciting new life to these works, I can photograph and enlarge them for paste-ups. This way they continue to evolve, which I find very rewarding.
